Description
Lettuces, often the foundation of a salad, are a group of cultivars originating from the plant Lactuca sativa. While some lettuces grow in compact, “crisp” heads, others – the “loose-leaf” varieties do not grow tight heads and can resprout when cut, making for bountiful harvests.
Preparation
In addition to its role as a salad green, lettuce can also serve as the ‘bedding’ for a meal or get shredded and added to wraps. Another wrap-option is to use lettuce as the wrap itself, filling the leaves with grain, veggies and spices before rolling.
