Our CSA runs about 24 weeks from late May/early June until early/mid-November. Pick-up is at the farm (located just south of New Paltz of off Hwy 208) on Tuesdays from 3:30 to 7:30 PM OR Saturdays from 9:30 AM to 1:30 PM. Shareholders choose one of these days as their pick-up day for the duration of the season. If, during the season, you aren't able to pick-up on your assigned day, we ask that you try to find a friend or neighbor to pick up your vegetables for you. You also have the option of asking us to donate your share to a local food pantry, which we do with all the produce leftover after CSA distribution.
Our 2010 share prices are $500 for a Farm Share and $265 for a Half Farm Share. The amount of produce you'll receive in your CSA share varies over the course of the season. In the spring and early summer, shares are at their sparsest. But wait! Soon enough tomatoes - luscious, colorful tomatoes - start rolling in, along with eggplant, peppers and other exciting crops.
There are usually six to nine items in each week's share.
Example of a spring share: 1/3 pound of mustard greens, 1/2 pound of chard, 1 head of bok choy, 1 bunch of broccoli, 1/4 pound of salad mix, 1 bunch of Tokyo turnips
Example of an early summer share: 2 heads of lettuce, 1 pound of summer squash, 1 bunch of radishes, 1 bunch of arugula, 1/2 pound of kale, 2 kohlrabi, and 2/3 pound of chard. (U-Pick sugar snap and snow peas)
Example of a late summer share: 1 head of lettuce, 1 pound of carrots, 2 bulbs fennel, 2 pounds of eggplant, 2 pounds of sweet red peppers, 6 to 10 pounds of tomatoes, 1 pound of summer squash, 1 bunch beets, and 1 pound of onions. (U-Pick cherry tomatoes and green beans)
Example of a fall share: 2 pounds of carrots, 1 bunch of broccoli raab, 1 head of cabbage, 1/2 pound of kale, 1 butternut squash, 1 head of lettuce, 1 pound of sweet red peppers, 1 bunch of beets, and 2 onions. (U-Pick raspberries)
Keep in mind that these are just examples of what a share might be like in a given season, and actual vegetables and amounts may vary from year to year! Click here for a complete listing of produce that we grow.
Throughout the season, various crops will be available as part of your share which you will be able to harvest yourself. Examples of these crops are peas, beans, cherry tomatoes and raspberries. The farmers will always indicate on the blackboard what U-Pick crops are in season, and where they are located on the farm. There will also be signs in the field indicating which crops are ready to be picked.
You are welcome to harvest U-Pick crops any day of the week, not just on your distribution day, but please remember to "share the harvest" while you're picking! Check the signboards in the Harvest Room for information about limits on quantity of U-Pick crops.
CSA shareholders also have the option of signing up for additional "optional" shares supplied by neighboring farms that grow products that we do not. There are three Optional Shares: Berry Share, Orchard Share and Corn Share. Usually lush and delicious, quantity and quality may vary depending on natural forces. Click here for more information about Optional Shares.
Shareholders are welcome to purchase eggs from the farm any day of the week Ð not just on distribution days. The eggs are from our pastured, organically-raised chickens and are available in the refrigerator in the Harvest Room. Eggs are not part of your CSA share. Please leave correct change in the basket. Eggs are sold as available - if we do run out, please understand that we can't harvest more at that moment, but we hope you'll come back and check again!
