Time: 10 a.m.
Location: Phillies Bridge Farm, 45 Phillies Bridge Road, off State Route 208 in Gardiner.
Rain Date: Sunday, April 26, 2 p.m.
Martha Cheo, Education Director of Phillies Bridge Farm Project, Inc., will be leading a leisurely walk on the farm Nature Trail. Pass by an extensive forested wetland, home to the rare Bog Turtle, a species whose story provides one example of how agriculture can actually help threatened wildlife survive. Hunt for early spring forest wildflowers and revel in a vast “meadow” of wild leeks (ramps), tucked away deep in the forest. If you have time, stay for a tour of this historic farm, established in the 18th century by Huguenot settlers, and now a thriving, organic CSA (Community Supported Agriculture) farm. Visit the greenhouse, alive with a new generation of vegetable bearing plants in the delightfulness of their youth. Taste and smell early spring herbs in the fields and meet the chickens, goats, and sheep. Since 1999, Martha has developed and directed education programs at Phillies Bridge Farm.
