The Farm to Families Program provides fresh food and a farm experience to low-income families in Ulster County. In partnership with local agencies, Phillies Bridge Farm Project distributes CSA (community supported agriculture) shares to low-income families, and also hosts a farm visit and cooking demonstrations for participants of the program. For some, this is the first time they have visited a farm, picked fresh vegetables, or seen the delight in their children's faces as they taste a fresh vegetable just harvested from the fields.
Farm to Families provides:
- Free shares of fresh, organic produce
- Visits to Phillies Bridge Farm
- Harvesting produce
- Cooking demonstrations
- Nutrition/food education
- Recipes for seasonal produce
- Container gardening
- Farm-related children's activities
- Off-site workshops
- Travel arrangements
Farm to Families has established partnerships with local agencies which provide parenting and nutrition education for families with young children. Some of our partners include:
- Cornell Cooperative Extension: Eat Smart New York and Food Stamp Nutrition Education programs
- Mid-Hudson Family Health Institute Healthy Start Program
- Hudson River Community Health
